Joe Hart - 6
Didn't have a save to make, but almost allowed Paul Dummett to equalise for the hosts when he failed to claim a corner.
Never going to be a natural right-back, but he handled the pace and trickery of Remy Cabella comfortably. Plays deeper than Kolarov which made the side look imbalanced at times, but the Frenchman hardly put a foot wrong.
Vincent Kompany - 7
Assured figure in the heart of City's defence - always reliable.
Martin Demichelis - 7
Offered experience and composure alongside Kompany - a stark contrast to the uncertainty shown by Boyata and Nastasić last week.
Aleksandar Kolarov - 7
Paraded up the flanks with intent and is definitely getting better defensively.
Fernando - 9 (Man of the Match)
Buzzed around the midfield with energy and determination in a fine debut. Supplemented the attack with pace and power, but was also on hand to make a couple of vital blocks to deny Newcastle an equaliser. Looks a steal at £12m.
Outshone by his central-midfield partner and was forced to sit in a deeper role than he would have preferred. Perhaps not at the peak of fitness, but still supplied a superb ball in the build up to Silva's opener.
Samir Nasri - 6.5
Started brightly and was a critical component in breaking down Newcastle's defence in the first half, but faded in the second.
David Silva - 7
Always instrumental in City's attacking play and netted City's opener without ever really emerging from first gear.
Held up the ball brilliantly and produced a luxurious piece of skill to set up Silva. Set to be handed a new five-year deal this week and deserves it.
Worked tirelessly, but faded from the game in the second half. Needs an early goal to instill that confidence.
Substitutes
Fernandinho - 6
Gentle reintroduction after heartache in Brazil
James Milner - 6
Helped City see out the win with typical tenacity
Back in business with a goal. Needs to stay injury free this season if City are going to retain the title.
