The Scandinavian made his home debut for the Super Frisians with two goals against Dutch giants Ajax. Those two goals would mark a revolutionary opening season for the tall striker who ended the season with an impressive 24 goals in 33 games. His record meant he finished the season as the third highest goalscorer in the league.
Unsurprisingly, his first successful season in the Eredivisie attracted interest from some of Europe's more powerful leagues as the likes of Cardiff City, Werder Bremen, FC Augsburg and Celtic fought for the striker's signature.
Remarkably, Heerenveen were able to hold onto their most prized possession; 9 goals in 6 games so far this season proved to chiefs at the Dutch club that their decision was correct.
Technically, Finnbogason's game is lacking, but his ability in the box is unquestionable. His height makes him a menace in the air and his positioning inside the box ensures he finds himself on the end of the majority of assists. If you had to compare him with another European striker, it would be Bayern Munich's Mario Mandzukic.
By no means is Finnbogason the 'complete' striker, but his attributes make him a contender for the Golden Boot every single season.
