West Ham United 1 - 3 Manchester City

WEST HAM UNITED 1 - 3 MANCHESTER CITY

Aguero brace hammers the nail into the coffin of City's repugnant away record.

Sergio Aguero added two more goals to his impressive tally to help his side to a comfortable 3-1 away win at Upton Park on Saturday evening.

City have endured a rugged time on the road this season, achieving only 1 point from a possible 9 away from home, but three points in Hammersmith will give Manuel Pellegrini reassurance that his men can fire on all cylinders under his management.

The blues started brightly and on 16 minutes, Sergio Aguero latched onto a delicately precise Fernandinho through ball to give the away side the lead. The Brazilian's vision married with Negredo's smart dummy and Aguero's delicious finish oozed class and left the mouths of the City faithful watering as the home crowd blew their bubbles.

City were in control, but Allardyce's side had shown just enough character to suggest that they could inflict wounds in the second half. The tricky Ravel Morrison was displaying glimmers of brilliance, but without an out and out striker up top, it was difficult to see how the Hammers were going to deliver their blow.

However, City's attacking intent never faded and just six minutes into the second half, Sergio Aguero nodded in an uncharacteristic header to put the blues 2-0 up. David Silva's curling free-kick met the head of the Argentine who, despite his earlier goal, was criminally unmarked.

With Fernandinho composedly piloting his side into West Ham's box, it looked to be game over. The Hammers had other ideas and responded in formidable fashion when Ricardo Vaz Te smashed home an exquisite overhead kick to put the home side back in the game. The Portuguese may have netted a belter, but the time he took to celebrate will have angered fans who were urging their side to grab an equaliser.

The nerves were circulating, but even with a defensive partnership of Javi Garcia and Matija Nastasic, the blues were able to keep their discipline and keep the Hammers out. A West Ham onslaught was avoided and it was Jussi Jaaskelainen that had to be on top form to keep out the likes of Yaya Toure and Alvaro Negredo.

Finally, the Finnish stopper's saving saga was stopped. With ten minutes left on the clock, Sergio Aguero teed up David Silva who magically curled City's third into the far corner. This time, it was definitely game over.

West Ham's impressive victory at White Hart Lane a fortnight ago was a cause for concern for many City fans, but Pellegrini's pupils achieved full marks on Saturday evening with an elegant victory. Now fourth in the table, the blues are set to make a real push to knock Arsenal off the top of the league.

Player Ratings
Hart Joe Hart 7
His confidence is returning and an excellent stop to deny Diame will only inflate it more.
Richards Micah Richards 7
Got forward as he always does but his physicality often makes him look clumsy.

Garcia Javi Garcia 7
He was slated before he even put on the shirt, but in actual fact, Garcia was City's best defender of the day with a number of vital interceptions.

Nastasic Matija Nastasic 7
Relatively untroubled and seemed to play the game with confidence.

Clichy Gael Clichy 6.5
His touch was off and composure was lacking but he dealt with Downing relatively well.

Nasri Samir Nasri 6.5
Unfortunately, Silva's return to the team may dim Nasri's sparkle. A few flashes of creativity but all the work was left to 'Merlin'.

Fernandinho Fernandinho 8
Controlled the midfield as Yaya quietened. An exquisite ball into Aguero secured City's opener and his class was on show throughout the 90 minutes.

Toure Y Yaya Toure 6.5
Fairly quiet but was unlucky not to score with a powerful left footed shot.

Silva David Silva 8
At the helm of all of City's creative play. Assisted Aguero for his second and curled in a lovely finish to ensure the win.

Negredo Alvaro Negredo 7
His intelligent dummy allowed Aguero to net City's opener and his physical presence gave West Ham's back line problems all game. Hit the bar with a tasty effort.

Aguero Sergio Aguero 9
Two more to add to the impressive league tally. Two goals and an assist. MOM.
