MANCHESTER CITY 6 - 0 WEST HAM UNITED
Negredo 12', 26', 49', Yaya Touré 40',
Džeko 60', 89'

City hit Sam's slackers for six.

Manchester City issued the Hammers with yet another hammering on Wednesday night to all but seal their place in the Capital One Cup final. Three goals from Álvaro Negredo helped to heap the pressure on Sam Allardyce whose side have conceded 11 goals in their last two games.

Proceedings commenced placidly and the blues entertained their visitors with some cool but casual football in the opening stages. However, it took only 12 minutes for the budding cup finalists to spring into life. Yaya Touré's looping pass dropped perfectly into the path of Álvaro Negredo who smashed City ahead with a meticulous first-time volley.

(Number one: Negredo exquisitely fires home his first of the evening)

Gasping from a goal-glut at the hands of Nottingham Forest on Sunday, the visitors showed the fight of a side certain that the Capital One Cup final was not in their reach. New signing Roger Johnson was handed an instant debut, but there was nothing he could do to prevent the onslaught of a home side hungry for goals.

Just thirteen minutes after scoring their first, Edin Džeko fed in a delicious ball into strike partner Negredo who slid past Adrián for his and City's second. The Spaniard, who has been accused of dropping off the pace in recent weeks, was answering his critics with a beautifully beastly performance.

(Number 2: Negredo lets everyone know exactly how many he has scored)

With the floodgates wide open and the Hammers whimpering in the presence of Britain's most carnivorous home side, Yaya Touré steam-rolled through an absent West Ham midfield to roll in his side's third of the evening. The Ivorian had just limped back on to the pitch after receiving lengthy treatment for an ankle injury, but had enough energy to run half the length of the pitch to effectively end the tie.

(Number 3: Yaya Touré gets in on the act)

Disinterested and distant, Allardyce's side joined the rest of a 38,000 crowd in drooling over the blues' blistering play. With nothing to lose, striker Carlton Cole was thrown into the action after the half time break, but all hopes of an unlikely comeback were cruelly quashed within just four minutes of the restart.

David Silva's blocked effort spun into the path of Álvaro Negredo who curled in to complete his hat-trick. The Spaniard's second hat-trick of the season extinguished any expectations of the blues nullifying their play in the second half and the striker celebrated a booming chorus of 'BEEAASSSTTTT!'.

(Number 4: The Beast completes his hat-trick)

But City weren't finished, and Negredo's partner in crime was desperate to imprint his name onto his sides' growing tally. With thirty minutes left to play, Edin Džeko's hard work paid off in the form of City's fifth goal. The Bosnian tapped in from birthday boy David Silva's cross and West Ham's defence were made to hang their hands in shame for the fifth time in one night.

(Number 5: Edin Džeko grabs a deserved goal)

The blues had gone beyond the five goal mark twice this season prior to kick-off and with Allardyce's side ready to pack their bags and head off home, Manuel's minions sensed another opportunity to reach the milestone.

Marcos Lopes's emergence from the bench was greeted with a rapturous applause from the home crowd and his delicious nutmeg fed in Aleksandar Kolarov who set up Džeko for his second of the night.

(Number 6: Džeko completes the rout)

Brilliance has been ever-present at the Etihad so far this season, but West Ham's dismal showing arguably played a bigger part in Manchester City's progression into the Capital One Cup final on Wednesday night. Allardyce may have the backing of the board, but as for the fans, they want him 'OUT!'.
